Errata for the 1998 Review of Particle Physics

During the time between editions of the Review of Particle Physics and the Particle Physics Booklet, we often find a number of errata. We correct most errata on our WWW pages. If you should find errata that are not known to us, please send mail to pdg@lbl.gov.

We present the following errata (most corrected on the WWW):

• Page 30 of the full Review (Page 43 of the Booklet): K0S Summary Table
  • (November 30, 1998): For K0S, c*tau should be changed to 2.6783 cm
    • c*tau = 2.6783 cm
  • (July 30, 1998): The fifth K0S Decay Mode (see pages 455-456 below) has been corrected to:
    • pi⁺ pi^- pi⁰ (3.2+1.2-1.0) x 10^-7
  • (July 29, 1998): The CP-violation parameter (see page 457 below) has been corrected to:
    • Im(eta+-0) = -0.002+-0.009

• Page 39 of the full Review (Page 72 of the Booklet): B0 Summary Table

  • (November 11, 1999): For B0, Gamma7, inclusive mode K+ anything
    • The fraction should read (78+-8)% cm

  • (January 18, 2000): For B0, Gamma55, (Last D, D*, or D_s mode)
    • The correct decay mode is B0 --> D+ D- [not B0 --> D+ D*(2010)-]

• Page 70 of the full Review (Page 7 of the Booklet): Astrophysical Constants
  • (October 14, 1998): The third value of the "age of the universe" has been corrected. A new reference has been added. It now reads:
    • The new value is 0.53

• Page 76 of the full Review (Page 252 of the Booklet): Atomic and Nuclear Properties of Materials
  • (July 29, 1998): For Hydrogen, the value of Z/A was incorrectly given as 1.00794. The second line in the Table should read:
    • H2 1 1.00794 0.99212 ...

• Page 163 of the full Review (Page 210 of the Booklet): Radioactivity and Radiation Protection
  • (November 3, 1998): In Section 26.2 the value for the Cosmic ray background should read
    • ~1 min ^-1 cm^-2 sr^-1
    The `-1' was left off the sr component.

• Page 190 of the full Review (Page 246 of the Booklet): Cross-Section Formulae for Specific Processes (see page 191 below)
  • (August 19, 1998): For Eq. (36.12), regarding the dimensions of the Mandelstam variable s
    The denominator for the right-hand side of the equation reads:
    • s(GeV/c²) (WRONG):
    instead of:
    • s(GeV/c²) ^2: (RIGHT):

• Page 191 of the full Review (Page 247 of the Booklet): Cross-Section Formulae for Specific Processes (see page 190 above)
  • (August 20, 1998): For the text that immediately follows Eq. (36.19), the list of particles that follows the R = is wrong. We have:
    • R= pi⁰, rho⁰, phi, ..., (WRONG):
    instead of:
    • R= pi⁰, eta, f₂(1270), ..., (RIGHT):

• Page 225 of the full Review: W boson
  • (August 27, 1998): W Anomalous Magnetic Moment
    • We have added encoding for ABACHI 97B (D0 Collaboration) along with the appropriate footnote. Please see the Listings for more details. Furthermore we have given ABE 95G the CDF technique.

• Page 311 of the full Review (page 13 of the WWW version): Neutrino Mass
  • (October 14, 1998): The last major paragraph in the Review that begins
    • If one assumes that a sterile ...
    has been rewritten.

• Page 328 of the full Review: f(0)(400-1200)
  • (July 10, 1998): Data for KAMINSKI 97B (PL B413 130) has been entered for

  • (July 30, 1998): For the K0S decay mode Gamma_5 pi⁺ pi^- pi⁰
    • Moving the ADLER 96E data on page 456 (see below) has changed the average.
    • The value now is 3.2+1.2-1.0 x 10^-7

• Page 456 of the full Review: K0S
  • (July 29, 1998): For the branching ratio Gamma(pi⁺ pi^- pi⁰)/Gamma_total [Gamma_5/Gamma]:
    • We have moved the ADLER 96E data out of the average and recalculated the average.
    • The NEW AVERAGE is now (3.2+1.2-1.0) x 10^-7

• Page 457 of the full Review: K0S
  • (July 29, 1998): For the second CP-Violation Parameter Im(eta+-0):
    • We have moved the ADLER 96D data out of the average and recalculated the average.

• Page 523 of the full Review: b-flavored hadrons
  • (September 17, 1998): At the end of the second paragraph after Table 1 in the Review titled `Production and decay of b-flavored hadrons' there is an error in the units for the B_c mass.
    • ... B_c mass of 6.4+-0.39+-0.13 MeV/c² ... (WRONG)
    • ... B_c mass of 6.4+-0.39+-0.13 GeV/c² ... (RIGHT)

• Page 544,546 of the full Review: B0 Listings

    • There is a 'sign' problem. The '-+ sign' should be a '- sign'

• Light Meson Listings
  • (May 27, 1998): For the following particles:
    f(2)(1950), f(4)(2050), f(0)(2060), f(2)(2150), rho(2150), rho(3)(2250),
    the Comment field for reference OAKDEN 94 was incorrectly listed as pbar p to pi+ pi-. It has been corrected to pbar p to pi pi. The footnotes for these measurements have also been updated.
