Errata for the 2002 Review of Particle Physics

During the time between editions of the Review of Particle Physics and the Particle Physics Booklet, we often find a number of errata. We correct most errata on our WWW pages. If you should find errata that are not known to us, please send mail to pdg@lbl.gov.

We present the following errata along with the corrected PostScript and PDF files:

• Page 28 of the full Review (page 22 of the DataBooklet --- page 10 on the Web):
  Lepton Summary Table
  Neutrino Mixing, section on Solar Neutrinos     PS     PDF
  • (October 24, 2002): There is a sign problem in the result for the number of non-nu_e active neutrinos:
    phi(nu_(mu tau))= (3.45+0.65-0.62)x10^-6 cm^-2 s^-1 (WRONG)
    phi(nu_(mu tau))= (3.45+0.65-0.62)x10⁶ cm^-2 s^-1 (RIGHT)
    Notice the sign mistake!

• Page 51 of the full Review (page 97 of the DataBooklet --- page 80 on the Web):
  Meson Summary Table     PS     PDF
  • (October 8, 2002): The units were wrong for the decay mode psi(2S) --> tau+ tau-
    The value should be (2.7+-0.7) x 10^-3
  • Similary for pages 737 and 738 (see below).

• Page 64 of the full Review (page 1 on the Web): Baryon Summary Table     PS     PDF
  • (August 28, 2002): For the Xi⁰ Decay Parameters, the text for the last two decay parameters was omitted.

• Page 142 of the full Review (page 2 on the Web): Grand Unified Theories     PS     PDF
  • (August 28, 2002): In the paragraph in the right-handed column that begins
    ... Complete unification ... Go down to the line that begins
    ... The first three ``spins'' ...
    There are about 8 lines repeated twice.

• Page 208 of the DataBooklet (okay on the Web and in the full Review): Passage of Particles through Matter
  • (February 3, 2003): There is a garbled sentence 3 lines down in the text below the figure caption. It should read:
    Since the plasma frequency scales as the square root ...

• Page 165 of the full Review (page 9 on the Web): Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis     PS     PDF
  • (August 28, 2002): Reference 30 had the wrong citation: it should have read S.G. Ryan, J.E. Norris, and T.C. Beers, Astrophys. J. 523, 654 (1999).

• Page 392 of the full Review: Neutrino Physics as Explored by Flavor Change     PS     PDF
  • (August 28, 2002): The full reference list is now available.

• Page 412 of the full Review (page 9 on the Web): Solar Neutrinos     PS     PDF
  • (October 22, 2002): The caption for Figure 2 reads:
    The contours show 68%, 90%, and 97% joint probability (WRONG)
    The contours show 68%, 95%, and 99% joint probability (RIGHT)

• Page 418 of the full Review (page 9 on the Web): Searches for Heavy Neutral Leptons     PS     PDF
  • (April 17, 2003): Limits on abs(U_(tau x))squared as a Function of mass of nu_x:
    Both measurements for ASTIER 2001 should have a CL of 90% (NOT 95%)

• Page 427 of the full Review (page 1 on the Web): b-Quark Mass     PS     PDF
  • (August 28, 2002): In the b-Quark Mass Listings, the result for JAMIN 97 should read 4.19+-0.06.

• Page 639 of the full Review (page 14 on the Web): Production and Decay of b-flavored Hadrons     PS     PDF
  • (October 22, 2002): The statistical error quoted in Equation 21 is wrong:
    B(B to K lepton+ lepton-)= (0.75+0.35-0.31+-0.09)x10^-6 (WRONG)
    B(B to K lepton+ lepton-)= (0.75+0.25-0.21+-0.06)x10^-6 (RIGHT)

• Pages 653,685 of the full Review (page 14 on the Web): B+-, B0 particles     B+-PS     B+-PDF     B0 PS     B0 PDF
  • (December 2, 2002): The page number for the MAHAPATRA 2002 reference is wrong.
    The correct reference is PRL 88, 101803.

• Pages 737--738 of the full Review (pages 1 and 4 on the Web)
  psi(2S) in the Meson Particle Listings     PS     PDF
  • (October 8, 2002): The units were wrong for the decay mode Gamma_5 or tau+ tau-
    The value should be (2.7+-0.7) x 10^-3 (page 737)
  • The units were wrong for the branching ratio
    Gamma(tau+ tau-)/Gamma_total or Gamma_5/Gamma
    The value should be (27+-7) x 10^-4 (page 738)
  • Similary for page 51 (see above).
